Steel Rebar Guide for Saudi Arabia: Grades, Sizes, and Quality Standards Explained

Steel reinforcement bars (rebars) provide the tensile strength that concrete lacks, making reinforced concrete the most widely used structural material in Saudi Arabia. Understanding rebar grades, specifications, and quality requirements is essential for any structural application.

Rebar Grades in Saudi Arabia

Grade 420 (60ksi)

The most commonly used rebar grade in Saudi Arabia, equivalent to Grade 60 in imperial units. Has a yield strength of 420 MPa and tensile strength of 620 MPa. This is the minimum grade specified by Saudi Building Code (SBC) for most structural applications.

Grade 500 (72ksi)

Higher-strength rebar increasingly specified for high-rise buildings, transfer beams, and heavily loaded members. Allows for more economical designs with smaller bar diameters.

Rebar Sizes Available in Saudi Arabia

  • T8 and T10: Light slabs, ties, secondary reinforcement

  • T12 and T16: Most common sizes for slabs, beams, and columns in residential construction

  • T20, T25, T32: Heavy structural members in commercial and industrial buildings

Quality Requirements for Saudi Construction

All steel rebar used in Saudi Arabia must comply with SASO 2 (equivalent to ASTM A615/A706 or BS 4449). Require mill certificates from the steel manufacturer when purchasing rebar for any structural application. Benna's verified vendors supply SASO-compliant rebar with proper documentation.
